Meet Liz and learn how at 19 years old she owned and operated a successful videography business.

Hey and welcome to my very first blog post! If you're new to my website, or have just discovered me on social media I'd love to take a moment to thank you for visiting and taking the time to read this blog.
For anyone who may not know me my name is Elizabeth McLeish (more commonly known as Liz) and I am the owner and operator of McLeish Film & Media. I am a Gold Coast based photographer and videographer but my work has seen me travelling around Queensland and even interstate. I established this business in November 2017 when I was 19 years old and I'm now celebrating my two year #workeversary
You may be wondering why at 19 I decided to start a business, when so many people at that age are just getting out of high school and most likely starting a university degree. I was very lucky that in school I had worked out what I wanted to do with my life and my career. I fell in love with the art of storytelling at a very young age and it has stayed with me ever since.
When I left school I tried out university but it wasn't really for me, so 6 months later I enrolled into a course at the New York Film Academy on the Gold Coast and commenced an eight month diploma in Screen and Media. In August 2017 I graduated with a diploma and luckily enough a few awards under my belt after submitting my graduating film to a number of festivals. A few months later in November 2017 I launched McLeish Film & Media and as they say the rest is history!
I always tell people that I wouldn't have had the confidence to start my own business had I stayed at university. I'm so thankful for the education I received at NYFA and the friendships I made, some of which are people I still colloborate with today in the industry. Something else that drew me to creating the business was weddings! I got asked by a couple whilst studying at NYFA if I could film their wedding. Once I'd shot one, more enquires came and I went from shooting 8 weddings in my first year of business to this year shooting over 20.
I'm so fortunate to work for myself at such a young age and tell people's stories through my work. I'm excited to share that as 2019 is wrapping up I am introducing photography as part of my services including but not limited to family photos, branding shoots, events and more. Introducing photography into the business has already seen me receving a larger variety of work and has allowed my portfolio to grow. I'm so looking forward to seeing the business expand in 2020.
When I'm not out shooting or in the office editing you'll either find me at the gym training for my IFBB debut in February 2020, lounging out on the beach, binging a Netflix series or hanging out with my nearest and dearest friends. I hope this blog gives you more of an insight into me and my business, I thank you for giving up some of your time to learn a bit more about me! Stay tuned for more blogs to come and please let me know if there is any topics you would like me to discuss.
